HUMANTAY LAKE

A natural mirror that reflects the unparalleled beauty of the Peruvian Andes

Humantay Lake a place to visit

The Humantay Lake is a beautiful body of water located in the Peruvian Andes, in the Cusco region. It is located at an altitude of approximately 4,200 meters above sea level and is known for its crystal clear turquoise waters that contrast with the snow-capped peaks of the surrounding Andes.

This lake is of glacial origin, which means that it was formed as a result of the retreat of glaciers in the region. Glacial melting has resulted in the formation of this high mountain lake, which is fed by water seeping from nearby glaciers.

Humantay Lake is a popular destination for travelers visiting the Cusco region in search of natural beauty and adventure. Many choose to hike from the town of Soraypampa to the lake, enjoying spectacular views of the Andes along the way.

In addition to its scenic beauty, the Humantay Lake also has cultural and spiritual importance for the local communities, who consider it a sacred place in the Andean cosmovision. Therefore, in addition to being a tourist destination, the lake also has a special significance in the local culture.

We had an amazing experience with Salkantay Trekking. It is not the cheapest option, but everything lived up to our expectations. Everything was very well planned - the trail, the food, the logistics etc. Our guide was very good at readning the mood in the group, and settled everything perfectly according to that. The food was great! We were never hungry. Overall, we can definitely recommend.
